Do you want to be a success at work? Of course you do! You would be fooling yourself if you said otherwise. Success is not something which comes easily to most people, definitely not for me. It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of mental preparedness and a road map to the end goal. After a couple of successive failures, I realised there are certain ways you can set yourself up for a successful job and a healthy career. Check out my go tos here!
1. Do not think everything is black and white
It took me a while, but I finally realised not everything in life falls under the black and white category of life. We are often uncomfortable with ambiguity. When we understand not everything is the way you thought it is, coming to terms with the patterns is an easier task. Once you put aside the rigid lines, the boundaries are limitless. You just need to open your mint to different possibilities and you can finally see the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
2. Stop jumping to conclusions
There are so many times in life when I just really misjudged a person or situation, coming out like a fool at the end of the day. Jumping to conclusions is the worst thing you could do, creating self constructed road blocks for your future. Stop trying to limit your boundaries and make sure you broaden your thought process. Do not ever get to a conclusion till you know what is actually happening!
3. Have your role in focus
You know why you were hired. You know what you were brought in to do. If you think you are getting pigeon holed, then it is time to branch out and let your boss know. While you may have been hired to do certain other things, if you think you are not growing, learn new things!
4. Keep observing
Growing up, my dad always told me an important rule of thumb. Keep learning, keep reading and always keep observing! The more you read and observe, the more you grow! Watch how your bosses do things and always keep taking notes. An increase in the amount of knowledge you have is never a bad thing, right? So keep learning, reading and growing!
5. Have and enforce boundaries
Once you know what you want both from work and life, it is time to make sure you have a structure in place. Enforce boundaries which will allow you to keep on track. Keep away habits, people, and behaviors that will only drag you down. Set realistic boundaries which help you grow and optimize your potential to the fullest!
