Elon Musk has a lot going on for him at the moment. Known for breaking ground with pioneering technology and his work with Space Research, Musk has set the buck rolling for some interesting inventions ahead. However, he has one big concern: the world’s obsession with artificial intelligence. This South African born genius can seemingly pioneer anything from PayPal to Tesla but the one thing he is petrified about is the amount of power artificial intelligence will soon have over people.
According to Musk, people are concerned about how AI would soon be in the hands of a few companies who will eventually end up ruling the world. From the looks of things, he is not the only man who is worried about AI’s sudden and quick rise to fame. Bill Gates and Stephen Hawking have also expressed their anger against everyone’s affinity towards artificial intelligence. In fact, Musk has gone on record to say that if abused, artificial intelligence could be as dangerous as nuclear weapons.
According to Musk, AI is at a precarious point. If not regulated, then this particular form of technology could be linked to anything from robotics to armed warfare. Why would a great entrepreneur be so worried about something like this? Simply put, artificial intelligence is man made. It has no feelings, emotions or empathy and simply acts on its own accord.
Believe it or not, AI enabled systems are replacing white collar jobs on a daily basis. If given any more power than it already has, artificial intelligence can decide for itself. As a consequence, we could very quickly become slaves to the systems, rather than the other way around. It comes as no surprise that this is the reason Musk is so terrified of the quickness with which AI is progressing.
