The reward system is a time tested formula that seldom fails. Starting from rewarding kids with candy after a dentists appointment to giving mementos to meritorious students, rewards are known to bring out the best in every body. However, this system is not used by everyone in the corporate world, thereby, making adulthood that much more difficult.
Recognising the hard work employees have put in and rewarding their efforts is not just a right thing to do, it also reinforces the feeling that their work is important and what they do matters. It helps in motivating employees to do better and establishes a criteria for what performance or contribution constitutes as rewardable behavior or action. Appreciating employees also increases their productivity levels. However, simple bonuses may not always work. Innovative and creative rewards will not just motivate your employees, it will also drive employee engagement levels.
1. Thank You Meetings
Call a meeting for all the people involved in a successful project and thank them for their hard work, long hours and dedication. Many people fail to understand the importance of a simple thank you and the impact recognition can have on employees.
2. Certificates and Mementos
Present certificates of achievement and mementos to the employees who have shown exemplary performances or have achieved the highest numbers for that quarter.
3. Gift cards
When the employees achieve milestones give them gift cards as a token of appreciation. The gift card can range from food to clothes and other services such as spa treatments as well. Movie tickets or sports or performing event tickets are also a good idea.
4. Impromptu time off
After working day and night for projects, let the employees have a day or even half a day off to enjoy with their families and friends. Let them take the time to relax and come back to work refreshed and energized.
5. Themed food day
Let the employees enjoy a day filled with food. Cookie day, coffee day, pizza day and even vegan day are little treats that will allow the employees to feel appreciated.
6. Team Lunch/Dinner
Take your employees out for themed or casual lunches and dinners. Book a banquet hall and invite families to make it a little more special. It shows that you care about the employees and their families as well.
7. Traditional Day/Themed Dress Code day
Just to spruce up the everyday work atmosphere, designate a day to change the dress code. Silly hat day, Hawaiian dress day, traditional day or hand loom day will increase the excitement among the employees to come to work and let off some steam.
8. Wall Of Fame
Have a wall dedicated to recognizing the overachievers and the brilliant employees of your company. Add customer compliments, progress reports and other achievements on the wall as well.
9. Contests
Run small competitions and award the winners after completing major projects. It would give the employees a chance to connect, coalesce and come together as a team with their peers. One minute games or outdoor games are a good way to give the employees a break from monotonous work.
10. Company Merchandise
Who does not love free stuff? Give your employees T-shirts with the company logo or shirts with quirky one liners that only your employees will understand or even just mugs. Small gestures with such inexpensive merchandise is a grand way to say thank you!
