How To Anticipate The End Of A Business Relationship

Be it a personal relationship or a business relationship, every partnership starts on the note of a happily forever after. If the forever end goal was not in mind, then the relationship would not have started at all. However, expectations usually are very far from reality. Longevity is often limited and goals differ during the growth of the relationship. While most people do not want to accept the end of a business relationship, it is extremely important to have a business strategy ready for when that happens. Here are a few tips which could prepare you for an eventual end.

1. Revisit The Original Contract

During different intervals with your partner, it is vital you and your partner review the original contract of your partnership. While you could have started out with a common goal in mind, over time, it is but natural that your goals change through the years. When these goals are not in sync, arguments tend to crop up more often than necessary. If these issues are not being solved, then it is time to think of an exit strategy.

2. Anticipate The Problem

In order to avoid sticky situations at the end of the relationship, it is a good thing to be able to anticipate the situation. Ensure yourself and the company. In cases of a problem, it is always useful to have a backup plan.  The purpose of this insurance is to ensure the continuity of the business and to prevent the remaining partners from inheriting a spouse or other beneficiary of the deceased partner through a will or intestate succession.

3. The Buyout

In the event of a partnership being dissolved, there are several ways to approach the situation. In small enterprises, where there are only two partners, for example, the problem may be that neither the company nor the remaining partner is in a position to make the buyout.

4. Right To Refuse First

Every partner has the right to refuse to break half way through the relationship even if you want to end the relationship. To avoid negative clashes, outline your plans first and make sure you have your exit strategies ready before you announce the end of a relationship.
