Lyft: Unknown Facts

Published

on

Lyft, a ride sharing service with a presence in over 65 cities of the United States, has been increasing in popularity since the time of its launch. With an impressive beginning and a future which leaves many jealous, this company has been giving Uber stiff competition since the very beginning. With a valuation of $ 5.5 billion, there are quite a lot of facts one doesn’t know about this cab service. Check some of them out here.

1. Tipping drivers is a must

Unlike other cab services like Uber (and Ola in India,) it is essential to tip Lyft drivers. While Uber as a service does not work with the concept of tips, Lyft believes otherwise. The service encourages people to either tip through the app, email, or personally! This ensures the drivers make the extra buck and the riders value the people ferrying them around.

2. Drivers in Lyft are ensured

Even though the employees of Lyft are hired through a contract, the drivers are insured by an insurance policy. With a $ 1 million policy created at the time of employment, Lyft makes sure that the employees have an insurance that is above and beyond the ones they themselves have.

3. Women rule the roost at Lyft

Taking the term ‘women empowerment’ to the next level, Lyft has made sure women are at the center of the action. As of January 2015, almost 50 % of the people holding executive positions at Lyft are women, while more than half the Lyft riders are women as well! The only pitfall here is that although there are so many female executives and riders, the number of women drivers does not exceed to more than 30 % of the force. The next step for Lyft, right?

4. Community is the building blocks of Lyft

When Lyft was first started, the founders believed that for a company to be great, there needed to be a strong sense of community. Sticking to this theme, Lyft encourages a system wherein the employees, when they are not working, use the service as well! This ensures an environment where all the people are treated as equals and there is no discrimination between the riders and the drivers.

5. The glowstache

To distinguish Lyft drivers from Uber drivers, the makers thought of a unique concept wherein every driver and car comes equipped with a bright pink mustache! Another added advantage of this idea is to capture the attention of the people on the road and to reinforce the presence of Lyft as the service one should definitely use!

Although people usually confuse Lyft and Uber, the distinction cannot be clearer. While Uber rests its laurels on the fact it is present in places all over the world, Lyft is becoming known for its community building efforts and for the way it treats its employees. If you think we missed out on any other facts about Lyft, comment and let us know!
