To Freelance Or Not To Freelance
Freelancing is the next up and coming profession in the world. Mostly because it gives you the power to work on your rules and at your comfort spot. Gone are the 9-5 jobs with an extra 2 hour drive in all weather conditions. The joy of working from any place that let your creative juices flowing comes second only to a fluffy free cheesecake.
But should you as an entrepreneur freelance your way into ownership? Why not. Freelancing is probably the perfect platform to see first hand the market space for your product and idea or your skills. It’ll open your eyes to what can be expected on a much bigger scale if you do decide to go Hans-solo!
Puns aside, freelancing is not about doing what you want, when you want and how you want to do it. Let’s leave the tantrums to toddlers. Freelancing will allow you to work in a time frame with other responsibilities. You’ll have to first come to a decision with the people hiring you about the amount of time or the services you will be providing the company. Along with time, you’ll also have to decide exactly how much you will be able to do for them per week and other kinds of commitments.
Now comes the hard part. Staying true to those commitments, meeting all deadlines, and never allowing the quality of work to come down. There are plenty of fish in the sea. Your work needs to show why you are the Puffer fish in a tank of salmons. A delicacy if cooked properly but deadly if prepared even a degree up or down.
The next obstacle in your path will be adding more people and companies to your database. Showing the way they should try the puffer fish instead of the same old salmon. This step is particularly hard as not every company will be ready to try fresh meat. Not everyone loves changes, especially if terms and conditions attached are do or die. Talent, previous work, recommendations and an amazing pitch will help you gather a bigger consumer base. Increase your consumer base and you will automatically increase the reach for your startup.
There’s a solid reason why there’s no substitute for hard work. Prove your mettle as a single entity and let the world know how unstoppable you will be if only you have the right sources to back you up. Every puffer fish needs an excellent cook to prevent murder.
