You just graduated from college and have your first degree in hand. The job applications have been sent out. All your life, you have watched movies where all the “cool dudes” work at startups and have a blast at their jobs. However, you also want to be earning the big bucks and making it to the big leagues. However, it might be a good idea to look at a startup for your first job. Here are a few tips which could help  in making your decision for you.

1. Your Work Will Be Recognised 

Startups are small ecosystems. Most companies have about fifteen to twenty people in the company. The benefit of this is simple. The more work you do, the more your work is recognised. The only negative about this? Your failures also will be taken into account!

Google started off by instilling the idea of innovation in every department. One of the biggest benefits of working with a startup is the fact that you can learn from the best ideators and creators. The opportunity to learn how models to encourage bottoms-up innovation are designed tends to be extremely valuable.

The average age at any startup is anywhere between 25 to 30 years. If your first job is at a startup, then you have more chances to get to meet interesting people. At my first job, for instance, I got the chance to learn how to branch out and connect to a wider group of people, which I would not have been able to do.

4. Self Satisfaction Is Guaranteed 

If you are the type who likes to be satisfied with the work you do (like I am,) then a startup environment is perfect for you. The competition is with real spirit and everyone at the company is there to prove a point. When given the platform to grow, most people take it by the horns and run to the finish lines. With an ideal startup environment, your work is the best you could give and satisfaction is almost always guaranteed.

5. The Work Is Always Fun 

Working at a startup is always fun. You know what they show in movies? Yeah. Those things are all true. Take it from a seasoned startup employee. There is a reason I have not moved to the Big Bad corporate world and it is not because of a lack of jobs.

Every first job needs a first place to start off from and a startup is the best place. Startups give you autonomy over your own success. Start off early and you end the journey by relying on yourself. If you are working on something, then it is yours and yours alone!
