Facebook To Come Up With A New Feature To Forestall Suicides
With the help of artificial intelligence (AI,) Facebook is all set to come up with a new feature to forestall suicides. As we are aware, by using Facebook’s Live feature, users are committing suicides. There are a couple of such cases where in which users live streamed their own suicide attempt.
In order to curb these situations, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his team are thinking about how to further use social media as a possible platform to help save lives.
The company is now working on AI technology that can detect comments that are “likely to include thoughts of committing suicides” and then alert the near and dear ones so that the troubled user can get help.
Facebook’s AI is also gearing up with a technology which makes users easy to help friends in trouble. Using this pattern recognition, the software will check posts and then, if needed, make ‘suicide’ options more prominent.
Facebook researcher Jennifer Guadagno said: “Some might say we should cut off the live stream, but what we’ve learned is cutting off the stream too early could remove the opportunity for that person to receive help.”
The ultimate aim of this new feature is to integrate suicide prevention tools into Facebook Live. If users see a troubling live stream, they can reach directly to that person as well as report to Facebook as well.
