Facebook Appoints Former Apple Product Lead As Head Of Oculus VR Hardware
Facebook has appointed former Apple Product Lead Michael D. Hilman, as its new Head of Oculus VR Hardware. Previously, Hilman worked as a Senior Engineer and Designer at Apple where he worked on products like the iMac, for some 15 years.
An Oculus spokesperson said Hilman will work closely alongside Oculus COO Hans Hartmann in his role. Hilman spent his last four years at Apple working on a confidential hardware project. He is also listed as an inventor on a number of Apple patents related to displays and battery technologies.
This VR company is growing much closer to its parent company, Facebook. Unlike other Facebook products like Instagram, Oculus will soon report directly to an executive in Mark’s inner circle.
Facebook recently got on board Xiaomi’s executive Hugo Barra to look to lead VR Efforts. Back then Zuckerberg commented on this saying: “I am excited that Hugo Barra is joining our Facebook team to lead all of our virtual reality efforts, including our Oculus team.”
