The children of some of the richest billionaires in India were born with the proverbial silver spoon. But, many of them have proved their worth with their business acumen and work ethics. Here are some of the children of famous businesspersons shouldering great responsibilities and living up to the family name, while making a legacy for themselves.

Akash and Isha Ambani

The children of the elder Ambani brother, twins Akah and Isha Ambani along with their younger brother Anant are active directors of Reliance Industries’ retail and telecom ventures. Akash is also the Chief of Strategy of the 4G service provider Jio, while sister Isha was named one among the 12 powerful upcoming businesswomen in Asia in 2015.

Aditya Mittal

Son of steel magnate Lakshmi Niwas and Usha Mittal, Aditya is the Chief Financial Officer of the world’s largest steel firm ArcelorMittal and the chief executive officer of the Europe division. Magna cum laude graduate from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in the United States, Aditya has also worked in the mergers and acquisitions department at the investment bank Credit Suisse.

Kavin Bharti Mittal

Son of the Founder and Chairman of Bharti Airtel, Sunil Mittal, Kavin did not join the family business. Instead, he launched on the most used Indian messaging application Hike Messenger which is the six largest messaging application. He has also interned at McLaren Racing, Google and Goldman Sachs while studying in London. Along with Hike, he is also the founder of AppSpark, the movie ticketing application called MoviesNow and also developed Foodster.

Ananya Birla

The sixth generation scion of the Birla family, Ananya is the eldest child and daughter of industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and Neerja Birla. She has three successful startups under her belt and has also won the ET Panache Trendsetters of 2016 award for Young Business Person. She founded Svatantra Microfinance at the age of 17, a company that provides microfinance to women in rural India and has more than 600 employees across 70 branches in 4 states as of April 2016. She is also the founder of global luxury ecommerce platform CuroCarte and Mpower, a mental health initiative aiming to stamp out the stigma towards people with mental illness across India.

Rishad Premji

Son of esteemed businessman Azim Premji, Rishad followed his father’s footsteps and is currently the chief strategy officer and executive board member of Wipro Ltd. Prior to joining Wipro, he worked with international companies such as Bain & Company in London and GE Capital in the US. He completed his post graduation from Harvard Business School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Wesleyan University.

Smiti Ruia

The daughter of the Vice Chairman of Essar Group, Ravi Ruia, Smiti Ruia holds a Master’s degree from London College of Communication. She founded Paprika Media, which publishes the internationally acclaimed entertainment and lifestyle magazine, Time Out, from three cities namely Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. She is the chairperson of Paprika Media Pvt., Ltd., and also a director at Essar Global Holdings Ltd. She also worked as a mergers and acquisitions analyst in the telecommunications sector at Lehman Brothers in New York.

Nisaba Godrej

Nisaba Adi Godrej is the Chairperson of Godrej Consumer Products and oversees the corporate strategy and human capital functions for Godrej Industries. She has an MBA from Harvard Business School and is currently on the boards of Godrej Consumer Products Limited, Godrej Agrovet and Teach for India.

Tanya Dubash

The Executive Director and Chief Brand Officer at the Godrej Group, Tanya Dubash is the elder daughter of industrialist Adi Godrej. She holds a degree in Economics and Political Science from Brown University and was recognized by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader in 2007. Currently, she is on the boards of Godrej Industries Limited, Godrej Consumer Products Limited, Godrej Agrovet Limited. She is also the Chairperson of Godrej Nature’s Basket, a board member of the Bhartiya Mahila Bank and a Trustee of Brown University.
