Tencent also said that it was ‘deeply sorry’ that its messaging app WeChat was blocked in Russia, and that they are in touch with the relevant authorities to solve this issue.

A Tencent spokesperson said: “We are experiencing a block and we are deeply sorry. WeChat till date have 889 million global users, was not properly registered with Russian regulators. It is not clear so far how many Russian users the app has.”
