iPhone Makers To Car Makers! Apple Gets Approval To Test Self-Driving Cars In California

Apple Inc. recently has secured a permit to test its self-driving cars in California hoping to offer those cars to the masses. However, the company had not yet revealed its exact strategy to move ahead. Apple has already reshaped culture with its iPhone and now it’s time to reshape the transportation too.

This permit covers 3 vehicles; all 2015 Lexus RX 450h Hybrid SUV’s and six individual drivers. Like other self-driving cars, Apple’s cars will be having human drivers behind the wheel so as to take control when something goes wrong.

Although Apple officially did not turn up regarding this project, there are several names circulated about the project like “Apple Cars”, iCars, and also “Project Titan.”

Apple’s Director of product integrity, Steve Kenner earlier said: “The company is investing heavily in the study of machine learning and automation, and is excited about the potential of automated systems in many areas, including transportation,”

According to the reports, Apple’s new vehicle could be exclusively powered by battery-electric technology, same as cars produced by Tesla.

Self-driving cars will potentially reshape the way how people work, play or commute. These automated vehicles surely help reduce congestion and pollution and also prevent crashes caused by human errors.

This is not the first time that Apple crept into the automotive space. It has already announced CarPlay interface that allows drivers to connect their vehicles to their iPhones.
