Yes, CEO of the largest online marketplace giant Flipkart, Kalyan Krishnamurthy quit his job and offered his seat to a 34-year-old woman employee. Well, this is just for a day! The Bengaluru-based company ran a contest in which the winner gets an opportunity to run the office for a day. The lucky Padmini Pagadala bagged this chance to act as a one day CEO of Flipkart.

The CEO of Flipkart, Krishnamurthy, shared this news on his Twitter account saying: “Excited to hand over the reigns of @Flipkart to #CEOForADay, Padmini Pagadala.”

A day after he again tweeted saying: “Spent a great day with our #CEOForADay, Padmini Pagadala. Back in the saddle now!”

Kalyan Krishnamurthy also added this is a fantastic opportunity for his employees to get a taste of what it means to be a CEO of a large, innovative company like Flipkart. They have a large pool of talented people leading high-intensity teams.

This is all part of Flipkart’s 10-year anniversary celebrations, which started in March. The applicants were asked to write a note on why they should be selected as the CEO for the day. And it was Padmini who gave a satisfactory reply, eventually making her win this contest.

Sharing her happiness, Pagadala said: “Only a company like Flipkart could present this mammoth of a canvas to an artist-engineer.” Padmini is working as an Associate Director at Flipkart during normal working days.

Padmini’s day as a CEO started with having breakfast in Kalyan’s office, during which the latter showed her a snapshot of how the company looks like. Then they both attended a few meetings in which Padmini too played some pivotal roles.

On being asked whether she would play the actual CEO of the company someday, she exclaimed saying: “Of course I love doing that. That is where I see myself in the near future.”

The organization has also planned out celebrations for everyone in the company from customers, to sellers to retailers.
